XXX: The Power of Sex in Contemporary Design
Campbell Hall Gallery and Western Oregon University present XXX: The Power of Sex in Contemporary Design. Curated by Joshua Berger of Plazm, and Sarah Dougher. XXX is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Sex in New York City, and is based on the award-winning book of the same name. The book has just been released in two additional languages: French and German. The opening reception at WOU is on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2007, and the show runs through March 13, 2007.
In the XXX show's introduction, exhibit advisor Steven Heller investigates how graphic design and communication utilize the iconic qualities of sex and sensuality. Such work is often shocking, frank and occasionally cliched, yet prevalent in many aspects of our everyday life. The show, featuring work from many of the world's leading designers, provokes a reconsideration of the stereotypes society has created via attitudes towards gender stereotypes, sex roles, power, romance and sex in the age of AIDS.
The show will also feature an original piece from Rebeca Mèndez that is on permanent collection at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
